FAQs

Do I need a referral to see an Osteopath in Windsor-Prahran?

No. You can book directly with our Windsor-Prahran Osteopath team without a referral from your GP. A referral is only required if you are accessing Medicare rebates through an Enhanced Primary Care plan, which your GP arranges. For private health insurance, WorkCover, DVA and TAC, no referral is needed to book.

What conditions do Osteopaths assess and treat?

Osteoapths are registered health professionals. They assess, diagnosis and manage a broad range of musculoskeletal conditions. At our Windsor-Prahran clinic, our Osteopaths most commonly see clients with back and neck pain, sporting injuries, tendinopathies, joint conditions, pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation needs, and pregnancy-related musculoskeletal concerns.

How many Osteopathy sessions will I need?

This varies considerably depending on the nature of your presentation, your health history, your goals, and how you respond to treatment. Your Osteopath will discuss a realistic timeframe with you at your initial appointment. Simple acute injuries may resolve across a small number of sessions, while longer-standing or complex conditions often require a more sustained treatment program.

Can an Osteopath help with pain I have had for a long time?

Osteopaths are trained to assess and manage chronic and persistent pain. Chronic pain is complex and often involves a range of contributing factors beyond the physical. Your osteopath will take a comprehensive approach that considers your full experience and develops a management plan that addresses both physical function and the broader context of your pain.

Is Osteopathy appropriate during pregnancy?

Osteopathy can be appropriate for managing various musculoskeletal changes that occur during pregnancy, including pelvic girdle pain, low back pain, and hip discomfort. Our Windsor-Prahran team includes practitioners with an interest in pregnancy-related conditions. Please let us know when booking so we can match you with the most appropriate physiotherapist for your needs.CDM), however this must be in place and initiated by a GP before treatment commences. We also have access to a team of Pelvic Health Physios for further referral if required.

Can I claim Osteopathy through Medicare?

You may be eligible for a Medicare rebate for osteopathy services under an Enhanced Primary Care (Chronic Disease Management) plan. This plan must be put in place by your GP before your appointment commences. Medicare rebates under this program are not available for standard appointments without a plan in place.

What is the difference between my initial and follow up appointments?

Your initial appointment is 45-60 minutes and is used to complete a full assessment, begin treatment, and establish your management plan. Follow-up appointments are typically 30 minutes and are focused on reviewing your progress, progressing your treatment, and refining your program over time.

What should I bring to my first Osteopathy appointment?

Please bring any relevant imaging (X-rays, MRI or ultrasound reports), referral letters if applicable, your private health insurance card, and any relevant paperwork such as a WorkCover or TAC claim number. Wear or bring comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows access to the area being assessed.

Do you offer Osteopathy for children and adolescents?

Our Osteopathy team works with people across all age groups. If you are booking for a child or adolescent, please note this when booking so we can allocate appropriate time and ensure the right practitioner is available. We may recommend a practitioner that is at another location to suit your needs.

Where is the Move Beyond Windsor-Prahran Osteo clinic located, and is there parking?

We are located at 174a Peel Street. There is free car parking directly in front of the clinic and across the road, with spaces ranging from one to two hours. We are opposite the Windsor train station.

How do I know if I am seeing the right practitioner?

We often get asked what the differences are between osteopaths, physiotherapists and exercise physiologists- the short answer is we try and match the right practitioner to you and your needs. We can help triage your condition to make sure you with the right practitioner to meet your goals
